Artist Joan Roberts creates each piece with thoughtful passion inspired by nature’s glorious red rock country: Sedona, Arizona. Each item is completely individual, made with a variety of jewelry media and techniques: Fine Silver and Gold, Kumihimo and Kuem Boo
Joan creates her beautiful leaf jewelry by painting layers of Precious Metal Clay (PMC) over real leaves. PMC combines microscopic particles of silver with water and a non-toxic organic binder to create a material that can be worked as clay. When objects are dried and fired in a kiln, the binder burns away and the silver particles fuse into solid metal of .999% pure silver. It is referred to as FINE SILVER.
She also employs Kuem Boo, a Japanese process used to apply thin foil sheets of 23.5K Gold to Fine Silver. Many of Joan's necklaces are Kumihimo, Japanese for braided cord. The kumihimo necklace is comprised of eight beaded strands woven on a kumihimo loom. |
